US Patent Office Competition Recognizing Application of Patented Technology to Humanitarian Needs

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has announced an awards competition that will recognize patent owners and licensees who use their patented technology for humanitarian purposes. The competition, named USPTO Patents for Humanity, commences on March 1, 2012.  Applications will compete in four categories: Medical Technology, Food & Nutrition, Clean Technology, and Information Technology. Winners will receive a certificate to accelerate a select matter before the USPTO.  They will also be honored at an awards ceremony at the USPTO, where they will receive public recognition for their efforts.
