Argentina’s Agriculture Ministry Drafting New Seed & Intellectual Property Law

In the course of announcing his government’s approval of Monsanto Company’s new Intacta RR2 transgenic soybeans, Argentina’s Minister of Agriculture, Norberto Gustavo Yahuar, declared yesterday that his ministry is involved in drafting a new seed law which will be presented to the national legislature in the coming months. Comunicado, Agricultura, presente en lanzamiento de nueva tecnología en soja  (Aug. 21, 2012).We have decided to proceed later this year with a draft seed law,” said Gustavo. “Befitting of  a country that claims to be a leader in food production,” he added, “we seek to protect intellectual property in the development process.”
